Revlon is revamping their "Photoready" line up of products. They finished out 2014 with the release of their Photoready Insta-Fix Foundation Stick & their Photoready Anti-Shine Balm.

They discontinued their Photoready Airbrush Mousse Foundation & Photoready Foundation but instead of scratching the two off their roster they sort of merged the two and named it the "Photoready Airbrush Effect Foundation."

Revlon claims Photoready Airbsush Effect is a:
"Revolutionary formula with Light-Filtering Technology delivers a poreless, airbrushed look. Soft-focus pigments create a luminous finish. Your skin has never looked so flawless."
They go on to claim that you can get "medium to full coverage" from the "high resolution" range of shades.

Formula:
The formula of Airbrush Effect is similar to the original Photoready foundation (which was housed in nearly identical packaging.) It's a silicone based makeup that has alot of sparkles and shimmer in it.

It's a medium consistency foundation. Not particularly fluid-like but not a thick cream either. It is pretty lightweight once it's on and it does blend out pretty well no matter what application method you use.

The recipe for Photoready itself (before the sparkles are added), is sort of a natural matte that's actually pretty versatile.

Performance:
It's not exactly a long-wearing formula so if you have skin that's even a little oily you will have to deal with the makeup transferring, and it's not a hydrating formula either so those with dry skin will probably only find there dry skin is made worse unless they take certain precautions.

The whole idea is that the shimmers & silicone will diffuse the look of any imperfections & make your skin appear "picture perfect" in any environment

It's important to differentiate "shimmery" from "oily". The finish isn't a "dewy" or wet finish, but rather a dry one with shimmer. Most people like some level of shimmer or highlighting for photos but applying it all-over (I would think) may have an adverse effect. Then again, I'm not a photo expert.

Like I said, the foundation formula itself is actually pretty decent and really versatile. The high amount of silicones and thicker consistency once dry mean that the foundation will resist creeping into fine lines or pores and shouldn't get patchy as fast as some other products.

You should be able to get away with it (as long as you moisturize/prime appropriately) unless you have insanely dry or oily skin.

The Sparkle:
Insetad of the original Photoready foundation which had much larger chunks of glitter, Revlon seems to have reduced the size of the sparkles themselves. This means that overall, the sparkle has been reduced to a "shimmer".

There is still the same quantity of little bits of twinkle but now they get distributed more evenly than they had in the past so the light will be less likely to catch a patch of your face that happens to look like a disco ball.

Shades:
Revlon stayed true to form with their array of shades. I can't comment on all 12, but the 6 that I have seen are all reasonable and natural looking.

Revlon stayed with the line up of shade names & corresponding numbers that they use for other Photoready or Nearly Naked products so if you know your shade in either of those lines there's a good chance it will still work for you.

Overall:
Revlon did do a good job with the reformulation of Photoready & release of Airbrush Effect Foundation. The foundation itself is a solid makeup option but the sparkles and shimmer are just not needed or could have been ground down more.

(Even Tarte Full Coverage 12 Hour Amazonian Clay Foundation & Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Makeup have some level of sparkle but it's nearly undetectable to the naked eye & unlikely to show up on camera,)

If you like some added shimmer in your foundation, or were a fan of either previous Photoready foundation, than Revlon Photoready Airbrush Effect may be worth considering.

***If you like a reasonable amount of shimmer & want another Cruelty Free option, try Buxom Show Some Skin Weightless Foundation SPF 30. It's fabulous and as versatile as Photoready but the shimmer is far less detectable. (I think it's $27 vs the $15 of Revlon, but worth the price increase.)***
